***NOTE: This training discusses psilocybin and other psychedelic substances in the context of mental health. It is intended for adults 21 years and older. The content is for educational purposes only.*** Psilocybin assisted therapy (PAT) is quickly gaining national attention as a major clinical tool to address a variety of mental health concerns, including treatment resistant major depression, generalized anxiety disorder, OCD, and PTSD. This treatment is now accessible in several states, including Colorado where our presenters are located. This presentation will provide an introduction to PAT, including historical contexts, proposed mechanisms of action, the phases of treatment, and unique considerations. • Describe how therapists’ roles during PAT differ from traditional talk therapy

Learning Levels

While academic and professional research has for decades investigated the effects of psychedelics broadly and psilocybin, the existing body research and conclusions is less extensive compared to other traditional psychotherapies . The presenters will present findings and acknowledge where these findings are tentative or early in development. Treatment using this approach is still federally illegal and additional specialized training and licensure is required to complete this treatment with patients. Therefore, this presentation is for informational purposes only and does not train attendees to use this approach with patients and clinicians are not encouraged to utilize psychedelic substances with their clients outside state-specific legal models. Utilization of psilocybin with clients outside of the state-specific legal model may result in harm to the client, the clinician, and the psychedelic movement at large. Commercial Support: None.
